Unable to install the .Net Framework 3.5 feature on Windows Server 2012 R2 using the Add Roles and Features Wizard

I was able to install .Net Framework 3.5 by specifying an alternate source path before clicking Install while adding the feature. I used the Windows Server installation disc, in my case D:\Sources\SXS\
